A mixed media painting for my brother-in-law's birthday. I printed it out and put it on a card for him. He seemed to like it. :)

The reference photo belongs to larkvi.com, the personal website of Sean Winslow, which I stumbled upon by google-searching "cat Ethiopia." Apparently, he researches medieval texts and went to Ethiopia recently to study Ethiopian scribes. While he was there, he took some very beautiful photos of cats. My brother-in-law is Ethiopian and he loves cats so it seemed fitting. :D

This is my second piece using collage and acrylic paints (plus some other stuff). This time I really made an effort to let the collage parts show through the painting. Do you think it's successful?

I think this picture is incredibly beautiful. I love the collage part of it, it looks excellent and it definitely shows too yet you kept the image looking neat and tidy, without losing complexity. The cat is gorgeous, I love its whimsical face and wow, those eyes are liquid. I like the colours in this piece a ton too, they are so beautiful somehow.:blackrose:

Thank you! I am so pleased the collage thing is turning out -- I was afraid I would look like a faker or something, haha. It's such a departure from my usual style but I think it's helping me. Aw, yes, the cat's face and colors are what make me love the photo this is based on. It's so pretty.

I definately think you succeeded in showing the collage through the paint and I really love how you did it. It really adds to the painting. The cat is so adorable and wonderfullyy painted! I love how it's eyes drawn your attention.

As always, you do wonderful work and I like the almost 'sketchy' way the coloring looks. My eyes were drawn to how green the cat's were immediately. :)

Thank you, thank you! :D I'm glad you enjoy the 'sketchy' style. I think this technique (the acrylics and collage thing) is really helping me relax into an interesting style. Right now I'm trying it out for an illustration for my children's story. I'm hoping it helps me keep it fun and alive. :fingerscrossed:

Heehee, I'm pleased with how the eyes came out. I love painting cats' eyes. :)
